چکیده
In 1943 Hodgson described a case of “ congenital retardation in development of the carpal navicular, first metacarpal and styloid process of the radius “ in association with wasting of the thenar muscles and recurrent sprains of the wrists. He was unable to find any previous description of a similar case and no other seems to have been recorded since 1944. The present paper describes two further patients with this condition, each of whom had additional congenital abnormalities.

Congenital hypoplasia of the carpal scaphoid bone.
Three cases of absence of the carpal scaphoid bone have previously been reported in this country (Hodgson 1943, Hanley and Conlon 1957). All three had similar deformities, namely absence or hypoplasia of the carpal scaphoid bone, associated with retardation in the development of the first metacarpal bone, the styloid process of the radius and thenar muscles. While agreeing with these authors th...

متن کاملBiomechanical interaction between the transverse carpal ligament and the thenar muscles.
The transverse carpal ligament (TCL) serves as the origin of the thenar muscles and is integral to thenar muscle contraction anatomically and biomechanically. TCL hypertrophy has been observed in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and is potentially caused by repetitive hand use. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical interaction between the TCL and the thenar muscles....

متن کاملKlippel–Feil Syndrome with Sprengel Deformity and Extensive Upper Extremity Deformity: A Case Report and Literature Review
Introduction Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) is a congenital anomaly resulting from fusion of cervical vertebral bodies secondary to the dysregulation of signaling pathways during somite development. It is commonly associated with scoliosis and Sprengel deformity. We present a case of KFS with commonly associated abnormalities as well as deformities that have not yet been reported in the literature...
